Experience & Biography

Lawrence Rosen (“Larry”) was born and raised in Gary, Indiana and has been living in Chicago since 1976. He obtained his Juris Doctorate from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago, where he was first in his class, appointed to the Order of John Marshall, the recipient of several awards for academic achievement and a member of its Law Review. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Forensics from Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana.

After graduating law school, Mr. Rosen began practicing at a major national law firm and later at a high-end boutique litigation firm specializing in highly complex civil litigation. Over the last several years, Mr. Rosen has specialized in family law, including all aspects of divorce, child custody, child support, property division, paternity matters, domestic violence law, the “International Child Abduction Remedies Act” and the “Hague Convention on the Civil Aspects of International Child Abduction”. Mr. Rosen has successfully represented many clients and has tried significant cases involving highly complex, hotly contested family matters with estates worth over a million dollars.

One of Larry’s notable cases involved an international custody dispute, Van De Sande v. Van De Sande, 431 F.3d 567 (7th Cir., 2005), where he safeguarded the safety of two young children by preventing them from being removed from the United States and returned to an abusive environment in Belgium.

Mr. Rosen has extensive jury and bench trial experience, and appellate court experience in the United States Courts of Appeals and the District Courts, and in the Illinois Appellate Courts and Circuit Courts. On several occasions, he has been hired by other lawyers to try their cases before juries and judges. He has authored two chapters on trial practice and procedure in a federal litigation treatise used by lawyers throughout the country. He also was an Adjunct Professor of Contracts at the John Marshall Law School.

Mr. Rosen is a member of the State Bar of Illinois, the Seventh Circuit Federal Court of Appeals, the United States District Courts of Illinois and the Federal Trial Bar of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
